Change The Trajectory of Single Mothers Lives

Working Women Give Back

The premise of Working Women Give Back is simple.

Our goal - to get 150 women to commit to giving a minimum of $1/day

Will you join our village and pay it forward in honor of those who invested in you?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

What: Find 150 working women who want to give back in the form of a minimum of $1/day personal giving commitment in gratitude for the many people that helped get them to where they are today.

Take a moment and call to mind who helped you & how they did it.

Let's be that person for the women who are largely forgotten and still expected to do it all - alone.

How: Once you've committed to pay it forward through your personal giving commitment, share this page on your social media and with your working women friends! Who do you know that would give $1/day to ensure at-risk women & children have bright futures??

Why: Women and mothers have faced incredible adversity in the workplace, and while we have come a long way, we still have a long way to go.

Child care issues are on lawmakers radars, but we've found that efforts are largely aimed at daytime workers, at the exclusion of some of the most vulnerable women and children in our communities - low-wage earners whose jobs require night/weekend work (retail, hospitality, warehouses, healthcare aides). These jobs are largely filled by women, many of which are single mothers, and although the Women's Law Center identifies the lack of child care is one of the biggest obstacles for this population obtaining & maintaining employment, not much as been done to ensure these women receive the essential child care support to reliably work.

And so they remain stuck in poverty.

Consider these statistics:

  • 41% of children in PA are born to single mothers
  • 25% of these families live in poverty
  • In 2020, 29% of single mothers were jobless all year

A single mother without child care can't work, meaning her family can't get out of poverty.

Our Innovative Solution

Along The Way ensures that single mothers can go to work & provide for their families and that at-risk children have the stability that all children need to thrive - our best-in-class caregivers go into the homes of our clients to make sure that homework gets done, dinner gets made, and children sleep in their own beds night after night while their mother is out working hard to provide for them - we believe this is a priceless investment.Imagine wanting or needing to invest in yourself and your family through work and/or school without a safe and reliable person to care for your children...how could you possibly accept a job offer on these conditions? And so women stay stuck, stay dependent, unable to gain the family stability that their children crave and the financial stability that they need to get ahead & thrive.

We've all personally experienced or know someone who has felt the punch to the gut when child care falls through and we need to get to work. For the women we serve, that's their every day. They want to work, to provide for their children, but not at the expense of their children's safety. And perhaps worst of all their children feel the punch to the gut too because their family remains stuck in poverty, and poverty wrecks havoc on every aspect of a child's life.
